Closeboard (featheredge)
Vertical overlap boards on horizontal rails. Solid screen, traditional UK boundary fence. 1.8m standard height. £55–£85 per linear metre installed.
Lap panel (waney edge)
Pre-made panels between posts. Budget boundary option, 1.8m standard. Faster install, shorter lifespan. £40–£65/m.
Composite fencing
Plastic / wood composite. 25-year guarantee typical. No paint, no rot, no splinters. £110–£160/m. Premium but maintenance-free.
Picket fence
Low (1.2m) front-garden style. Decorative, classic. White or stained. £45–£75/m.
Trellis (top or standalone)
On top of 1.8m fence to add height without solid mass. Or standalone for climbers. £20–£35/m.
Metal / estate fencing
Wrought-iron styling, rural estate aesthetic, see-through boundary. £95–£150/m.
How we install (vs. how cheap installs fail)
- 600mm post holes — not 300mm. Deeper post = wind-resistant fence.
- Fast-set concrete mix at each post base — not just hammered-in spikes.
- Pressure-treated posts rated UC4 (ground contact grade) — not standard fence-grade timber that rots in 3 years.
- Gravel boards at the base — replaceable if they rot, saving the full panels above.
- Capping rail on top — stops water soaking into post end-grain.
When fences fail:
Always at the post. Never the panels. So we concrete posts in properly and use ground-contact-grade timber — it costs maybe 15% more than cheap fencing. Lasts 3x longer.
